Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is Aerial Fitness?
A: Aerial Fitness is a workout using a special piece of fabric known as Aerial Silk (aerial ribbon, silks, or tissu). In aerial fitness, you will learn to climb and manipulate the fabric as you maneuver your body into various positions to gain strength and flexibility.
Q: What is the appropriate class attire?
A: Kristi recommends wearing a long sleeve unitard to class to maneuver around the fabric easily while preventing burns of the skin from the fabric. If a unitard is not desired, a fitted sleeved top and tights/leggings are okay. No jewelry, please.
Q: Where can I purchase class attire?
A: Kristi's favorite place to shop for workout apparel (especially unitards) is at http://www.DiscountDance.com All Aerial Fitness Students can save an extra 10% by entering Coupon Code: TP56249
Q: What should I bring with me?
A: Please bring water, a yoga mat (for stretching) if desired, and the spirit to work hard and accomplish amazing things in class.
Q: What if I can't climb the silk?
A: There are many exercises you can accomplish without climbing the silk. You will learn to utilize the fabric to help increase your strength and flexibility while building body awareness at your own pace. As you start to fire up the new muscles in your body, they will slowly get stronger to the point where you will eventually climb the silk.
Q: Is there a weight limit?
A: There is no set weight limit for class. If you have concerns you can always contact us.
Q: Do I have to be able to do a pull-up?
A: You do not have to be able to do a pull-up. But the good news is, you will eventually build enough strength to do a pull-up!
Q: What if I have a fear of heights?
A: Aerial Fitness is a great way to conquer your fear of heights. Kristi will never ask you to do something she does not think you are ready for. You will learn to face your fear by building trust and confidence in yourself and your ability. Kristi also has a fear of heights and she believes that the fear will always keep you safe.
Q: Can I still take the class if I am not flexible?
A: You do not need to be flexible to begin Aerial Fitness classes. You will learn different exercises on the ground and in the air that will help you increase your flexibility over time.
Q: Will I have safety lines while training?
A: Although there will be no safety lines in Aerial Fitness, we will always have crash pads and mats under you to ensure your safety. You will build strength and different skill sets in your training to prepare yourself before ascending up the fabric. You also do not need to go very high if it makes you feel uncomfortable.
